Below is an alphabetical list of homeschool evaluators throughout Florida.  Choosing an evaluator is a personal decision and we encourage you to shop around and ask other homeschoolers in your area who they recommend. What to Expect at Your Evaluation: At the evaluation I will review your child's work, ask him or her some questions, and perhaps ask him or her to read for me, if applicable.  An informal reading assessment may also be requested.  I will also spend time visiting with the parent(s), answering questions, and making curriculum suggestions when necessary.  This process usually takes between 45 minutes and one hour; longer if there are several children.  Individual and group standardized testing is also available at an additional fee.

What to Expect at Your Evaluation: Evaluation will comprise of a portfolio review and interview with the student.

Qualifications & Experience: I spent 8 years teaching in public schools (kg, 2nd grade) and have experience with mainstreaming ESE students. I understand the unique situations of unschool and special needs students. I hold a master's degree in reading and literacy.
What to Expect at Your Evaluation: Evaluations take 30 minutes or less in most cases. Please bring or mail the form your county wishes to have signed as well as proof that learning occurred this year. Most people use work samples in core subjects from the beginning and end of the year for comparison. I will speak with you and your child or children via Skype or in person. I will answer basic questions and evaluate your child's progress. Feel free to contact me to discuss alternate forms of proof of learning. I am an unschooler and understand the need for flexibility.
Location(s): Orlando, FL and surrounding areas (Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole Counties) Skype and in person evaluations are available.
Cost: $40 per evaluation ($35 for each additional evaluation for a sibling on the same day.)

Perkins, Cynthia

Qualifications & Experience: Pinellas County teacher for 9 ½ years, current author of English and mathematics curriculum for grades 2-12
What to Expect at Your Evaluation: All that I require are copies of 2 samples from at least 2 different subjects emailed or mailed to me through the US Postal service.  These samples can be workbook pages, projects, or anything that would allow me to see progress in the 2 subject areas. After I've reviewed the samples, I'll email you to set up a time that I can call and have an informal relaxed conversation with your child about their favorite subjects, what they like about homeschooling, etc.
Location(s): St. Petersburg, FL
Cost: $25 for the first child, $20 for each additional child. You are welcome to pair up with other homeschooling families for the discount.
