Overview

Little Passports is a subscription-based service that introduces children to different states around the US and countries around the world through exciting, monthly mailings. Little Passports offers two subscription packages: a World Edition and a USA Edition. This review is for the Little Passports World Edition subscription. With a Little Passports World Edition subscription, children will learn fun, age-appropriate facts about 24 different countries and their languages, history, culture, and geography.

What You Get

For your first month, your child will receive an Explorer Kit containing a sturdy paperboard suitcase (approximately 11" x 8" x 4"), a large wall map (approx. 34" x 22"), a World Traveler Passport, a Boarding Pass (which gives your child access to online activities), an introduction letter, a photo, stickers, and an activity sheet. After your first month, your child will receive monthly letters, stickers, photos, souvenirs, boarding passes, and activity sheets.

  • What It Costs

  • Prices vary as there are different duration plans to choose from. The prices at the time of this review are between $10.95 and $13.95 per month.

How It Works

Each month your child will receive a country specific package in the mail from two young travelers named Sam and Sofia (details above). Through adventure letters and activity sheets, your child will learn where the country is located (includes stickers to place on the map and in your child's passport) and a few fun facts. Each package also includes a Boarding Pass which gives your child access to country specific online games (such as puzzles, age-appropriate trivia, and map activities).

Educational Emphasis

The Little Passports World Edition introduces children to up to (depending on the duration of your subscription) 24 different countries and teaches them facts about their languages, history, culture, and geography.

The Good

  • Kids love getting mail, and since the packages are sent from Sam and Sofia, it's like having two special pen-pals.
  • Their online games are fun and challenging.
  • The suitcase is made of quality paperboard, so it will last long after your subscription ends.
  • There are different subscription plans and durations to choose from, so you can sign up for a plan that fits your child's interests and your budget.

The Not-So-Good

Even with the online games, there really isn't much content to keep kids engaged for very long. However, you can expand on what your child learns with each package by incorporating it into your child's geography curriculum.

Tips

Plan ahead! Sometimes your child will solve puzzles to learn where Sofia and Sam's next destination will be. Get your kids excited about their next package by learning about their next destination between mail deliveries.

Recommendation

We recommend Little Passports as a social studies/geography supplement for students in grades K–5.

Summary

Little Passports provides an exciting way to introduce children to different countries around the world. Through monthly mailings, your child will learn about different countries and their languages, history, culture, and geography. We recommend Little Passports to children between the ages of 5 and 10.
